Bob Earls

Bob Earls first read Motor Age at age 8, built his first car at age 13 and has continued to be a complete gearhead his whole life. Bob’s automotive journey spans the golden days of street racing in Los Angeles in the 60s to building chassis and engines for the legendary restoration shop of Hill & Vaughn in the late 70s. He served as shop manager for Lamborghini of North America in the early 80s and has maintained and restored private collections since 1983, first in Los Angeles and since 1990 in Portland.

Bob does complete restorations, specializing in engines, electrical and mechanical, and builds an occasional street rod. For 15 years he has been a judge at the Forest Grove Concours and has been writing for many years. He was editor for The Clipper, Packard International of Oregon’s regional publication, and continues to be a contributor. He is also a contributing editor to The Hood Release, the magazine of the Oregon region of the Classic Car Club of America. He also writes screenplays.

His automotive credos are: “All cars are a variation of a theme.” “Have a solid grounding in the basics and you’ll never go wrong.”
